How to Clean Your Oven in 5 Easy Steps

An oven comes in the list of most commonly used gadgets in a kitchen. However, it is very important to clean the oven regularly to maintain hygiene levels. Regular oven cleaning also ensures that it stays in good condition and lasts longer.

Well, there is no doubt that the ovens are low maintenance, but they do require a thorough cleaning every few months. The cleaning process of an oven is not complicated at all. You can have the DIY formula or get an oven cleaner from the store.

Have a look at this guide to learn about five easy steps to keep your oven looking great.

Step 1: Prepare to Clean the Oven

Before cleaning an oven, make sure you have all the supplies you need and your oven ready for cleaning. It would be great if you had rubber gloves, a cloth, and a cleaning solution for the cleaning process.

Making Your Homemade Cleaning Solution

One of the best natural and easy oven cleaning methods involves using sodium bicarbonate and vinegar. Also known as baking soda, it can lift tough greasy spots when exposed to vinegar.

Take 8 tablespoons of baking soda and mix with 3 to 4 tablespoons of water until it has a pasty texture. Just make sure to have some white vinegar on hand if you’re using this solution to clean an oven, as you need to give your oven a nice shine after the paste has done its job.

Step 2: Remove Trays & Racks

Your oven should contain a few racks and some sheets. Therefore, carefully remove the trays and racks. Soak these accessories in some warm water with liquid detergent outdoors. Let them remain in the solution containing water and liquid detergent for a few hours.

After that, wash them with a sponge to effectively clean your racks and trays. You can also go for a wire brush or a used toothbrush and scrub both sides of the grille thoroughly to remove burn marks and dirt buildup.

Step 3: Rigorously Apply the DIY Formula or Oven Cleaner

The oven cleaning procedure is the same whether you scrub the oven with a cleaner purchased from a store or use a homemade paste made from baking soda and water.

Apply a good amount of cleaner to the inside of the oven. It includes all interior walls and glass oven doors. If using baking soda or a commercially available paste, wear rubber gloves and carefully apply the detergent to all areas inside the oven, avoiding the heating elements. Now that the inside of the oven has been coated with a cleaner. It is time to do the same with the oven rack.

Set your oven trays and racks in the sink or on a work surface lined with paper towels and cover them with detergent. Leaving the solution in place for an hour or two can get you out of it, but letting it sit overnight can restore even the dirtiest oven to its former glory. Just sit back, rest, and come back in the morning.

Step 4: Wipe Down the Oven

After the cleaner has done the job, it’s time to wipe it out. Once you have removed the remaining baking soda or oven cleaner, deliver the oven to a final cleaning with a clean, wet cloth.

If you have used homemade baking soda paste for oven cleaning, you’ll need to spray white vinegar into a spray bottle inside the oven to finish the cleaning. It will remove all grease residue and cleaning paste and present a sparkling clean oven in front of you.

Step 5: Clean Oven Racks

The inside of the oven is brilliantly clean. The last thing you need to do is wipe the oven shelves and remove the cleaner. If there are any jammed bits left, the scouring pad should do the trick to get rid of them. Now that you have a clean oven rack, you’re done, and you can put it back in the oven.

The oven cleaning process is simple, and you can use a homemade formula using baking soda and water or go to the store and get an oven cleaner. Either way, the inside of your oven will look like new.
